If you leave her behind and go into another door there is a chance she can still die. Usually she dies like that when Walter was in the previous room.

Wait, so Eileen can die outside of the final boss fight? What happens then? Game Over?

Pretty much. I personally haven't tested this though. I'm one of those gamers who hates letting allies die and/or be left behind.

I more or less get that "god d**n it" voice in the back of my head when I see an AI ally die.

I've played this game since the day of it's first release with SH1 and always get each new game on it's release date. It's one of those few RE clones that stands out on it's own. And, yes, they arer hella scarier tyhan RE ever will be. RE is for those jump out of your seat moments, where SH is more like a "dig your finger nails through yopur seat scary, the tension and freak outs is what sets this game apart from RE. on any Survival horror game i play, my ritual is the surround sound gets cranked up and all the lights are turned out ... SH is the oply franchise where i have to turn the lights back on and take a break and get my senses back to normal. I've played them all and beat them all, except origins on the PSP, and glad to hear they are porting it to the PS2 later this year

Origins is a pain! Replacing weapons all the time was annoying, but Travis seems to take more damage than any SH character to date. My suggestion for Origins: Use Small melee types and Heavy melee types. The Long reach ones are OK, only the charged attack is good IMO.
