Since we're all fans of the same series, I'm curious to hears others first reaction and experience when playing Resident Evil. What was your first RE game? your first impressions? how long did it take you to adjust to the "tank" 3-D control scheme? Everyone's got a story, here's mine, and this is TRUE
Not gonna lie, i was die-hard Nintendo growing up, and i never got into the new CD based game consoles, PS1, Sega Saturn, etc. i was happy with my catridges. One night i was at a friends house and he was playing this horror game on the PS1 called "D ..." you played a girl named Laura abd has to solve these cool puzzles in a first peron view 3_D setting. I fell in love with the game, being a huge horror movie fan and video game fan, it was both my true loves in one. I played this game non-stop, would probably play through it about 3-4 times a day, my friends were sick of watching it but i couldn't get enough of the creep factor the game had.
Then my friend told me about a new game that coming out tomorrow called Resident Evil. I never heard of it or cared for it, i was happy with "D..." but i bought it anyway because it was suppose to have zombies and some coool puzzle solving elements. Right away, the opening cinema had me hooked, the cheesy dialogu and the B-movie aspect fit me right in place with the horror theme. The first zombie scene eating on Kenneth's dead corpse was just too overwhelming, i couldn't believe a game FINALLY pushed the envelope for what a scary game could offer.
The puzzles were tough, searching and back tracking through the mansion gave me the sense i was really in that mansion and learning my way around, and memorizing each room's location and where to find items i was looking for or would need later.
We stayed up the entire night, my friend had to goto work at 7 in the morning, he left, i was glued to my PS1 controller. We got out of the mansion just before he left for work and i SERIOUSLY thought that was the end of the game, it was so long and challenging, (for a game back in '96) i was satisfied with the game and couldn't wait to replay it again... little did i know, the game was just beginning. by around 10 that morning, i got chased down by Neptune the shark, and i wigged out bad. it was so awesome, i couldn't even pick the controller up. I didn't want to run from that shark again.
I quit playing because i wanted my friend to see that scene and would hate for him to miss out on the rest of the game. I drove to his work and wrote a note to leave on his car, it read eexactly like this.
7:00 a.m. I'm all alone. I've managed to escape the mansion and lost my partner. found an outside house past the back of the mansion. more zombies. more dogs. i can't take much more of this.
9:00 a.m. spiders attacked from nowhere. found a secret passage in a bedroom. went down, thought it was safe. i was wrong. A shark, a frigging shark ate me. i don't know if i can go back. the tension is claustraphobia is setting in, fever gone bad...
itchy...
tasty ...
That was my note, done ion RE style, i was so impressed with the storyline and the mysterious files you would find, i wrote my note based on our favorite "the Inkeeper's Diary"
when my friend got off for his lunchbreak, he got my note, came straight to my house, and we played more Resident Evil. He didn't go back to work the rest of the day, called in an emergency. It took about 2 more days of playing, but we beat it, and i found my new favorite game series and my gaming world as i knew it had changed forever.
That's my story, i don't expect anyone else to post as long as did, but i just had a story to tell and i'll always remember that first night of RE.
