Hey, I was looking for a thread like this but I couldn't find one. Yes, I know that a RE:OB File 3 is unlikely, but if you could change/add anything you want to the game, post your ideas here. These suggestions can be either minor or they can be game formula alterations.
My Wishlist:
1.) Less Puzzles, More Survival
In Outbreak, I find it somewhat boring doing puzzle after puzzle, searching down key code after key code. The whole puzzle thing has been a remaining theme since RE 3 (the puzzles in RE4 were not as trivial). I think this gameplay mechanic has become dry and should be left behind.
In it's place should be a larger play on surviving/eluding zombies and choosing your fights. Barricading played a small part in the Outbreak series, but in reality, it would be a smart thing to do and should be more readily available. Handy and resourceful players (using the David character or something like that) could barricade doors with wood and nails. (I know, it was in the Outbreak scenario of file 1 but that was so miniscule plus there was no door it was a bunch of random planks.)
Windows would also be barricaded. This would introduce a whole new worker class. Having a guy like this in your group would be helpful. Now what what if you have no such tools at your disposal. Improvized barricades pushing objects in front of doors (like the first moments of the first scenario of OB) and stacking objects. Lastly, barricades shouldn't last very long against zombies if left unmaintained meaning you could have a team player stay behind and sacrifice himself as zombies smash against the destructable doors and windows, pulling on the planks and pushing the couches and tables off of the doors.
2.) Less Linear, Variety of Environments (Oh yeah, make 'em bigger too!)
You might say that barricading could cause a problem online as some players would purposely block off areas from players. I say this, give players multiple routes to their destination. Some rooms (like hallways) will simply be unbarricadable just because of their location (many should, but not all). Multiple paths also leads me to another thing.
Racoon City is an urban environment, why were we limited a bit on where we could go. You say it is too dangerous to go outside, well prove it! I want to step out into a crowd of zombies in the first outbreak scenario, then let me. Also let me regret it by the massive amount of zombies ripping me apart.
Also, eliminate the load zones between two small areas. Larger areas like the ones in RE 4 would be acceptable.
3.) Create your own survivor
I'd like to get a few customization options to make my own survivor. Options would include male or female, body type, (would affect strength and speed, there would be two extremes and one medium) clothing, a choice of starting item (given a balanced list), and the special abilities. (Potshot/Dodge?)
4.) Getting Attacked in Danger Mode
It's sort of odd that when you're in danger mode (that is when you are crawling on the ground and your virus meter is going up) that the zombies disregard you after that point. It would be cool if zombies tried to grab onto you while your crawling away or continue biting you, causing sporadic increases in infection.
5.) Infection Mode
Here's an idea I was thinking of. It starts out like any scenario except all the survivor's have a 0% virus meter that does not go up... UNLESS you are bitten. Then it goes rapidly up, almost as fast as if you were in danger mode. Other players then have the option of attacking you and you become a zombie soon after; a zombie who cannot die but simply can get knocked down. You can then transfer your infection to the next and the next.
Kind of cool eh?
5.) Microphone Support
Not that I don't like the ad-lib system, I just think being able to actually talk would be better.
Post your comments on my ideas or your own ideas/wishes.
