(What a way for me to make my return)
I like all of the games, RE4's elements were new and kinda enjoyable, but I like the origonals better. My favorite one was of course CV:X, who could not adore the annoying laugh of the transvestite Alfred? XPPP

I do believe boltdragon is right but as long as old school lovers keep posting in here about why its better then Im gonna come back and post to. Wesker I dont know what your thinking but I have rarely in movies or on reality tv seen backtracking used. So dont give me that bs because it just aint true. Most cops or what ever might search the area but never back track all the time. They check one scene then move forward the rest.
Madden is a good example but thats not the point. Its not that the devs wanted to make more money its that they were getting bored with it. Alot of devs left because they just got sick of working on the same **** over and over again. You also wanna say I suck at the game just because I personally thought it took to long to find or figure some things out. I beat the d**n games...so I dont see how you can go around saying that. But I guess im gonna have to say this again because nobody seems to get this part. Survival is about staying alive...well every game your trying to stay alive otherwise you would be dead first thing. Also You get plenty of ammo through the game its just you need so much for the bosses. You dont have to run by the zombies you just need to conserve so the bosses are easier. I dont know what game you guys played but Im guessing you all must have a tough time finding ammo in them.
If you wanna say its not horror then what makes horror. None of the games actually are really scary. Makes you jump here and there but scary....never. RE4 had parts that made you jump to. So you can go around saying that but your not right. If you wanna play puzzles then go find some other game...resident evil games should not be puzzle based. A few puzzles should be there but not alot like some of the old ones just 4 puzzles tops. But if you love puzzles over shooting then go play clue or something else and stay away from video games. Play those dumb computer games or something. Not console games. I know i have alot of good points that you cant prove wrong. I also know you guys have some good points i cant prove wrong. But in the end all the games are great and are deserving of the resident evil name and fan base. But you still wanna act like 4 doesnt...stop being so d**n ignorant people. This game deserves everything the old ones did. I never said the old ones sucked cuz i played them to. Im just saying unlike all of you i was able to see RE4 as a true RE just like the old games. But all of you are stuck in the past. Move on people.

Arguing on this subject is pointless, we are all going to think what we want to and nothing will convince us otherwise. The point of 'backtracking' though is to get you familiar with certain rooms. I can use the final scenario of File 1 in Outbreak as an example. There was one wall that you would pass by and nothing would happen, but whenever you go back to that room later on Thanatos smashes threw the wall right next to you, causing you to jump out of your seat. And there is how Outbreak and the originals all had creepy atmosphere, and were also scary by the fact that you actually had to conserve ammo and not fight everything you see. When your loaded with weapons and ammo and can literally kill everything (like in RE4) you don't get scared in the least, there is also a severe lack of suspense. Now on topic, will RE5 live up to RE4? I'd say so, because it looks pretty bad too.

HA!HA!HA! ;D sorry, i can't help myself on this one. do you not realize how easy you make this for me? ... I said it makes the games more like REAL LIFE ... not some stupid NYPD, or CSI Miami TV show, where the scripts are written to speed the show up for it's 1 hour time frame. backtracking gives you the sense that you're in that area, in real life, you go somewhwere you have the chance to go back and see it again; but, in tv and movies, you have to use the REWIND button. Madden was a good example, wasn't it

It's been awhile since I last posted on here but I'm back. I'm not even gonna tell you what reality tv is because If you don't already know then...WOW. But maybe one day you might figure it out and not think of it as CSI or something dumb like that. But I love all resident evil games and will for my entire life.
People just keep telling me how bad 4 is and why I am not a real RE fan because I believe it's the best of the bunch. I think it's all about preference and what you find appealing. You all can talk as much **** about RE4 and say its not a good part of the series but in the end that is your current perspective on it. Doesn't make it the truth because its not. In critics and consumers eye's its by far the best RE to come out since 2. All I wanted to do in the first place was state It's just as deserving of a title than any other RE to date.
I created this topic for me and others to talk about RE5 and If It would live up to the previous installment. But the new school haters had to come in and just hate on these titles some more. I did not create this topic hoping for this...I wanted general discussion about the things that would make 5 stand out from 4. What made 4 so good and what they need to do in order to make 5 just as much of a success. I did not want what you new school haters wanted out of this topic. Now I look like the bad guy for sticking up for this game and the creators of the series in general for the new image they have made for the series as a whole. Its not the mountain of a change that you all make it out to be...its really nothing more than a speed bump. Story lost some stuff and the gameplay focused more on shooting than running and solving puzzles. But the core mechanics still work the exact same.
I love all RE games but in the end I can say anything and most of you will still look at me like I just stood up in class and let off a wet one.

NOt tryin to start another agrument or anythin but if you look at how things come out in series type games, the next in the series is ALMOST ALWAYS, if not ALWAYS, giving praise to the next part of a series. It happens to every game, including the Final Fantasy series with its praise with each game as it hits stores for a month or 2 than they go on about how bad the game is if a majority of people hate it. With RE4 most people that I've asked loved it because it requires less brain work. Most compair it to games like Halo, FPS or TPS basicly.
All in all, people look at gameplay than story. The ones that look at the story compaired with the rest have a distaste for it, weither it be large or small. Everyone hates everything no matter how small or large the hate is. Everyone likes everything no matter how small or large.

Sorry, I didn't read the entire thread but I'll throw my personal opinion in. The answer is yes, and here's why. Observe the trailer. Graphically, the game is better, but that is a given for any sequel. Next, observe the enemies. There are a LOT of them onscreen and there are a lot of different attacks on Chris. Also, I think it's going to have a better story because in Chris's narrative, he talks about "his long struggle." What struggle was this? Combatting Umbrella. So it's going to actually have something to do with Umbrella... Which is good!

contracts, we could've ended this long ago if you would've just accepted our opinion as well. but you had to start the attacks against ours first.
i never attacked your opinion, until you started on mine.
I understand why you love RE4... no lie, i loved it at first ,. too. but afterwards, when i'd go back to play an original RE, then play RE4 , it really sucked.
I'm sorry, that's my opinion.
Sure, it's fun to maximize a custom weapon, and blow stuff to smitherines, over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, again.
but, having to think, and backtrack, and solve those original RE stories, is what makes RE survival horror, when i play RE4 ....
Yes! I'm going to say it ....
It's no different than playing any other run n gun game out there.
The Originals put RE in a class of it's own with it's gameplay style and mechanics.
RE4 has sold out and joined the ranks of so many other titles around RE4's new genre... the only difference is it has somewhat of creeps and thrills which kind of make it more exciting than other run n gun games.
